CEE'S KITCHEN: HIDDEN HEART

It's been long since I last stepped into the kitchen and baked something, the last time I baked anything was when I had a friend over. This is my second attempt at baking this hidden heart cupcake, the first time I failed miserably. I must say, I'm an extremely lazy baker. I never liked mixing the cake mix myself, so I would always get ready-made cake mix. I made the cupcakes vanilla flavoured and topped them off with cream cheese frosting, which the mother has complained that it was a tad too sweet, oops. P/s: ignore how the pink cake turned out 80% charred.

Ingredients for the cake:
Cake mix (Follow the instructions on the back of the cake mix box)
½ tsp of vanilla extract 

Ingredients for the red/pink cake:
Cake mix + red food colouring
½ tsp of vanilla extract

Ingredients for the cream cheese frosting:
4oz of cream cheese
2 tbsp of unsalted butter (I accidentally bought salted butter)
½ tsp of vanilla extract
2 tbsp of milk
1 to 2 spoons of sugar (I think I added like 3 to 5 spoons)

Process:
To prepare the cream cheese frosting, mix all the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl and whisk until it's all incorporated. Cover the mix with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for an hour or so before serving.

Preheat oven to 180degC. The instructions on my cake mix box said to add 3 eggs, milk and unsalted butter so, add them in a large mixing bowl and whisk until it's all incorporated, like usual. Split cake mix into 2 different bowls and add red food colouring to only one bowl.

Send the red cake into the oven first, it should be ready in ~10-12 minutes or check back regularly to see if it's charred. I left mine inside for ~15 minutes and it became this charred. Meanwhile, line your cupcake pans, well, I don't have an actual cupcake pan so I had to improvise a little. Once the red cake is ready, let it cool for a bit. Once it's cooled, I used a heart-shaped cutter to cut out little hearts. I got the heart-shaped cutter from Daiso, it comes in a packet of 6 heart-shaped cutters in various sizes. 

Fill the base of your cupcake pan with the cake batter and place the heart-shaped cut out in and make sure that it is standing upright (not pictured). Oh and yes, remember the direction the heart shapes are facing, so you don't accidentally split them into half later. Hide the entire heart shape by filling up the remaining spaces with cake batter. Send them into the oven and patiently wait for another ~10-12 minutes.
