Picnic Checklist

Let's get a picnic in order! I love picnics, or any activity that makes a good excuse for me to bring all my friends together. Planning a picnic is not difficult at all, once you have all these checked.

Bloom Where You Are Planted

In collaboration with Kikki K.

When Kikki K approached me to work on this Mother's Day campaign with them, I jumped at the idea because I've always been a fan of Kikki K. As most of you know, I've never really gotten very personal with my blog posts - even though this is a personal blog; I've just never been a fan of expressing too much feelings.

In less than 60 days, I will be 14,000km away from my family for almost 2 months and while I'm extremely excited to be in the one city that I've always dreamt of going, I am a little worried that I may be homesick. My mother has taught me many things, all of which I am grateful for, but as a parent and child there were definitely times when we could not get along.

Growing up, she definitely displayed the characteristics of a 'tiger mum' which was why we always had little arguments. My mother is also the epitome of a worrywart, but she would never let my brother and I worry or felt different from any other family. As an average middle class family, we were always comfortable and never had to worry about not having food on the table or having new clothes and shoes to wear. As

emphasized our importance and would without hesitation give up whatever she has just for us to be safe, healthy and happy. She always taught us how to be contented and know when the time comes for giving back we should do so generously and unconditionally.

Gorgeous greeting card, S$6.90.

In an attempt to get to know her better, I asked that she fill up certain pages of the book. In this book, there are several sets of questions which your mum can answer (see example above - note how she strikeout the 'and' and swap it with a ♥), and it is so much fun to read and have a laugh after. Click here if you would like to purchase the book and a gorgeous bouquet for your mum, she will really LOVE you for it ;)

Without my mother I would definitely not be where I am today. In 2011 or 2012, I was obsessed with photography but my options were limited because all I had was a Canon point-and-shoot. Finally, after much persuasion she finally bought me my first DSLR - which of course, I am also thankful for up till today. After I got my DSLR, I started my blog and my Instagram to share the photos that were taken with it. Time passed and I got to be where I am today. As much as I would like to thank every one of my followers who have supported me this far, I would not have achieved my little success without the biggest sacrifice and support from my mother.

P/s: all photos in this post were also taken with the very same DSLR — Canon EOS 60D, with my go-to lens, Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II.

Blooming With Joy

Sephora is now online! Yes, you heard me right. For everyone in Singapore, we can now shop beyond closing hours! Home to a myriad of brands, Sephora sent me a few products from TARTE that are just perfect for Spring time.

Tartelette In Bloom Clay Palette - S$69 on Sephora Singapore.

The beautiful floral burst on the front of the palette is amazing! Although it did make me feel like there would be more spring-like/ethereal shades. The colours in the palette may be very contrasted to the packaging, but there are 12 beautiful neutral-hue shades, some with bits of glitter and several other matte colours.

Here's a closeup - they are so pigmented and easy to blend! My favourites are the shimmery ones - Funny Girl, Rocker and Firecracker.

Tarteist Clay Paint Liner - S$34 on Sephora Singapore.

This is an interesting one! A cream liner in a tube? Hmm. Initially it was a little difficult to apply due to the angled brush and also because I have been using liquid eyeliners for such a long time but once you get the hang of it, it glides on really easily! Plus, it's a really good eyeliner for humid Singapore. It definitely lasts at least 6 hours (tried it).

Here's a tip to make your eyeliner stay longer and prevent under-eye concealer from creasing: bake your makeup! I know it sounds scary but trust me it's not. Read here and here for more information. It works wonders and I'm obsessed with it!

Tarteist Lip Paint & Lip Crayon - S$30 and S$28 on Sephora Singapore.

Moving on to Lips! I may or may not be addicted to lipsticks. Each of the Tarte lip paint product comes in 10 different shades, mostly pinks and reds. The lip paint smells amazing, has a velvety matte finish (doesn't feel dry at all) and is long-lasting (I had 2 meals and I could still see the colour). The only thing that bothered me is that it gets into the creases of my lips.

A little goes a long way with this product, so don't apply too much else it will be very hard to work with.

If you're looking to get the Lip Paint, I highly recommend pairing it with it's lip crayon counterpart. Line your lips first before applying the lip crayon, helps it last a lot longer which means less touch-ups needed!

Mother's Day is just a few weeks away, why not pamper her with some Tarte goodies?

Frozen Flowers

Real flowers that underwent the latest frosting technology to retain its natural form — I'll take a dozen please. I am sure by now these frozen flowers have made their way on your Instagram feed (see #whynotspeakup) probably quite a number of times so they need little introduction.

After my short break here, I have become very selective with the advertorials I do, so when it comes to supporting creative individuals like the duo behind JXKL aka WHYNOTSPEAKUP I'm 100% in on it. I am not sure about you, but the first thing that caught my eye was the design of this pendant and how the flower is beautifully encapsulated. You know those notes that are stuffed into tiny bottles or miniature ships stuffed into cork bottles, it's just really fascinating to me.

These necklaces make great gifts and will look good with just about any outfit, and if you wish, you can always layer them up though I would prefer that they stay in the limelight. Their Laramie collection has recently been sold out, but you can make a reservation by dropping them a note: hello@whynotspeakup.com.
