How I Set Up My iOS14 Homescreen

Hey everyone, it's definitely been awhile since we've been here, I hope you've all been well! This year's been a wild one, hasn't it?

As soon as I got my new iPhone, and with the iOS 14 upgrade I knew I wanted to try making an aesthetic home screen. After sharing it on Instagram, I receive a number of questions on what apps I use, where I get my icons from so hopefully this post will answer all those! :)

So if you're ready to say goodbye to the boring ol' home screen, let's start!

How I Edit My Instagram Photos

It's been a hot minute since I last did a post like this. I've been putting it off for the longest time because I've already done other similar posts (How I Edit My Instagram Photos, 3 Tips for Better Instagram Photos, How to Flatlay, 10 Must-Have Props) and I was worried I would be repeating too much of the information. As my editing style has changed quite a bit since the last time I shared, it was time for an updated tutorial!

A Saturday Well Spent Brings a Week of Content

I spent last Saturday with a couple of my friends at Diner en Blanc (thank you Bless Inc Asia for the invitation) and had an amazing time! It was really nice to have this opportunity to dine al fresco, and not let the rain (typical) dampen our moods.

Create Cinemagraphs From Your Phone

I've recently been creating cinemagraphs for the fun of it and a lot of you have been asking me how I do them, so I hope this tutorial will be helpful! You can check out mine here - #cëenemagraph. So, what are cinemagraphs? Cinemagraphs are made up of still photographs that hav repeated minor movement, and you can choose to save it as a video or a gif.

Hello 2017!

I hope everyone's had a lovely 2017 so far. I can't believe week 1 whizzed past just like that! If you've been following me on Instagram, I rang in the New Year in Hong Kong - pity I wasn't able to catch the incredible fireworks display as I landed in the afternoon.

2016: A Year to Remember

Typically, posts like these are done when we are literally days away from the next year, but I started drafting this post back in October because I wanted to make sure I jot down both important and less significant moments, good and bad times. Life is made up of these little moments. I was afraid that by the time December came, all the festivities would put me in such a good mood that I wouldn't be able to give an 'honest' recount of the year.

20 Days of Flatlay Challenge

I always get asked what inspires me and how do i create new content almost every single day. While most of my content is based on my daily life, trust me, there are days when i’m just bumming around and cracking my brain for ideas and get nothing!

The purpose of this flatlay/a photo a day challenge is to help you (and me) get inspired! You don't necessarily have to create a flatlay, just follow the concept for the day. The first few days may be difficult, press on and hopefully by the 5th day you’ve gotten used to the tune of things! If it's too much for you, take a break, skip a few days and hop back on when you're ready to.

By the end of this challenge, I hope that you will know what it takes to take a photo or create a flatlay (e.g. the importance of good lighting, how to play with angles, or which colours go well together) but most importantly, I hope you have fun!

Let's begin this challenge together on the 11th of November (when this post goes live you have 4 days to prepare) and it will run all the way till 30th November. Before you start, save the image below to your device so it's easier for you to refer to. Don't forget to use the hashtag #20DaysofFlatlay for me to check out your photos/feed. Oh! And you may want to read my post on how to create a flatlay. If you’re already a pro, 20 days of photos, here we go!

Here's a guide to help you out!

Day 1: something new that you got this week
Day 2: your morning routine - since it's the weekend, you should have the time to do this. anything that's part of your morning routine (e.g. coffee, tea or even skincare products)
Day 3: today's outfit - if you're at home, like me most likely, then show us your cutest PJs
Day 4: monday blues - channel your hatred for mondays by creating a flatlay with colours you think don't complement each other *cringe*
Day 5: hands in frame - this doesn't have to be a flatlay, unless you want to
Day 6: texture - some suggestions, but not limited to marble/concrete background or glitter/sequin item
Day 7: your work desk - hey, 1 more day to the weekend!
Day 8: what makes you happy?
Day 9: indoor space - your living room/your dining area/your bedroom
Day 10: a photo that didn’t make the cut - hopefully it’s not in the trash by now
Day 11: while commuting
Day 12: travel tuesday - together with your flatlay, share with me your experience from your recent trip/where you want to go next
Day 13: on wednesdays we wear pink, right?
Day 14: an organised mess
Day 15: different angle - remember I mentioned about angles in my post, try to shoot something from a different perspective today
Day 16: live life colourfully - we're talking about colours that complement each other here!
Day 17: is it sunday brunch or breakfast in bed?
Day 18: seasons - fall if you're in the northern hemisphere and spring if you're in the southern hemisphere. And meanwhile, there's me on the equator
Day 19: your favourite colour - mine's rose gold/copper, what's yours?
Day 20: you're a pro now, so you decide. also, IT'S ALMOST DECEMBER!!!

Cëe the World: San Francisco

It's been over a month since I left (my heart) in San Francisco. Missing this city way too much, so I decided to skip my LA post and do this first.

18 Hours in Dubai

Hello from Berkeley! 5 cities in 2 weeks is something that I've never done before - so apologies for the lack of updates. It's been a crazy 2 weeks, travelling across the World and getting used to the different timezones. To make matters worse, I'm 15 hours behind everyone back home (in Singapore). My midterms are over, so I finally had sometime to work on my Dubai vlog and blogpost as well as my NYC vlog. I regretted not filming my trip to Australia last year, so I decided to do so this time! You may watch my Dubai vlog below or here, hopefully you would enjoy looking at Dubai through my lenses.

Just a quick overview of how our trip went: We flew from Singapore by Emirates and landed in DXB at around 6 in the morning and as this was our transit we didn't have to collect our luggages. But as we had a hand-carry bag, we decided to make use of their baggage storage services. You have no idea how thankful I am that DXB offers this service and at only AED20 (SGD7.30) or AED25 (SGD9.10), for larger bags, for every 12 hours (or part of). This service is available in Terminals 1 and 3. With our baggage sorted out within minutes, we went on our way.

If it's your first time in Dubai, I highly recommend getting a desert tour package or similar. While it is not difficult to get around Dubai as they have signs in English and people are helpful, it would be difficult to head out to the desert on your own. As it was summer when we were there (35°C at 8am what?!), we opted for the morning desert tour which costs about SGD72 per person. Pick up/drop off location is usually at any hotel in the city, however, we requested for the pick up to be at the airport instead.

Morning — Our driver was not only punctual but very friendly! After picking us up from the airport, we did another stop at a hotel to pick a couple up and headed out to the desert. The desert was about an hour's drive from the city and along the way we saw a camel completely camel-flaged (geddit?) with the background. As soon as we reached the desert, the driver prepped the SUV for the desert terrain. Dune bashing was so much fun, I wouldn't mind doing it again (but would like to pay lesser this time)! The actual dune bashing lasted for about 10 minutes, then we got out of the car - at this point you can attempt sandboarding or take thousands of photos of the same landscape. Guess which I chose to do.

Late Afternoon — Being at the top of the World's tallest building made everything look so tiny and unreal. Tickets were AED200 (SGD73), for prime hours and slightly cheaper for other times. From the top, you could see how downtown Dubai is highly concentrated with skyscrapers and then everywhere else was just sand. It definitely put everything into perspective. As we were landing in Dubai, I was just exclaiming how much sand there is - silly I know.

Evening — Our flight to New York was at about 2am but we made our way back early for dinner and to freshen up. As our layover was more than 4 hours, we were given meal coupons to dine at selected places in the airport. I'll have you know that complementary shower facilities are also available in DXB Terminals 1 and 3 (how amazing is this place?!)

All in all, I think that 18 hours in Dubai is more than sufficient! By doing a longer layover, you can save on accommodation. It was by choice that we didn't head to the marina, but there's definitely time to slot in a visit to their beaches if you wanted to. Thanks for sticking to the end! Hope you enjoyed/found this post useful the next time you plan to go to Dubai, if you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comments below or drop me an email.

P/s: DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT, wear sneakers to the desert. I knew it was a bad idea from the start, but I didn't want to exceed the weight limit for my check-in luggage. Till this day, I am pretty sure I still have sand in my sneakers.
